We are officially exhausted! And there's still the move to come, plus a million things left to do around the house. We can't believe that the building project itself is all but at an end. Today was packed with activity, beginning with the Tilers turning up to finish off the grouting in the stairwell, doing the silicone expansion joint on the deck, grouting the skirtings and splashback of the patio sink unit and siliconing the joint between the tiles and the three sliding glass doors.
Guy hung all the doors in the guest and main bedroom sections, and then commenced work on the skirtings and architraves in all the living rooms. He's agreed to stay on until next Monday so that he can paint the front door and do all the skirtings and architraves downstairs. This is a huge relief to us as we're both so hopeless at this sort of painting.
A telecommunications man came and did some work on the phone line and outlets inside this afternoon. Shawn spent the day wiring the air conditioning units, sorting out the meter box and starting on the music system. He gave Bern a hand lifting the tv onto its bracket and installed the cooktop and oven.
Tony, the carpet man, returned to lay the carpet in the guest bedrooms and hallway. We still haven't got over the novelty of smelling new carpet in the house!
The security/shower screen people collected the downstairs shower screen from our rental property and installed it, as well as the guest bathroom shower screen upstairs. Well, almost - due to the extremely hard tiles, they wore out their two diamond-tipped drill bits so have to buy more and come back tomorrow to finish things off.
The window cleaning company returned to clean all the window and door tracks, which they'd neglected to do yesterday. Meanwhile, Bern installed the wardrobe units (there are four of them) in our walk-in robes, got the tv bolted into position and the patio speakers up. Jen just cleaned, only this time it was vacuuming and mopping rather than scraping adhesive and grout off tiles.
This is likely to be the last blog, especially as our normal broadband connection won't be up and running for over a week. The blog has hopefully served its purpose over the past six months. For us, it's provided a record of the building project, one which we're sure to enjoy looking back on over the years. |
